At Fairlawn, children enjoy two or three different history-based topics each year, ranging from dinosaurs and Ancient Greece to Vikings and World War II. As well as developing key history skills we make meaningful links between history and other subjects, for example developing literacy skills alongside learning about a historical period. Wherever possible we engage children in using primary sources of information. We also create engaging lessons using drama and immersive events such as a Victorian School Day in year 5. To reinforce their learning, theatre groups and visitors bring the subject alive and all children benefit from visiting places of historical interest, including The Museum of London, The British Museum and The Horniman Museum.
